Supporting the Carl Schmitt Foundation

The Carl Schmitt Foundation has an array of development plans. Tracing “lost” paintings by Carl Schmitt and compiling a catalogue raisonné with reproductions and information on these works is a priority. Most important is the funding needed to photograph all these works properly. Mounting exhibitions, publishing a handsome book of reproductions and offering reproductions for framing will follow.

However, the Foundation’s work is not merely historical, and goes well beyond simply preserving Schmitt’s painting, drawings and archives. The Foundation actively seeks to encourage new scholarship and artistic development in keeping with Schmitt’s aesthetic vision. We hope soon to launch study days and study weeks for young artists, and in due time symposia and study sessions for art historians and scholars. This will mark the start of establishing the Foundation’s Study Center, based on our rich archive of Schmitt’s Studio Notes and other writings and our art library. We seek to establish research fellowships for graduate students of art history and aesthetics who can begin to explore the full depth of Schmitt’s vision of “Putting Tradition into the Modern.”
